trap music
Wassup to my fellow beatmakers and anyone else reading this!  So I decided to talk about trap music which may be surprising to those who follow me on social media.  I say that because I’m mainly about soulful boombap styles of beatmaking.  To answer this question quickly, i’d say yes.  We are at the end of 2015 and in my personal opinion, trap music has taken over hiphop.  Just listen to the urban commercial radio stations, watch television, or go to a club if you disagree.  The style of music that you will hear the majority of the time in each if not more of these avenues will be trap music.  Im not here to give or argue about the true meaning of trap music. There are plenty of other blogs that do that, but I simply want you guys to consider 3 questions.

1. Can You Be Yourself?

trap musicNo matter how popular something is, I believe it is best to stick with your individualism.  That means do you!  If you love making boombap beats and that’s what makes you happy, then keep doing it.  I’m not saying to avoid making trap music, but don’t make it just because it’s popular.  I would be the first to say try doing different things however, let’s keep it real.  If trap music ain’t your thing, it’s gonna be noticed in your beats.  None of us want to be known as someone who makes wack beats right?  Stick to what makes you dope without trying to be with the ‘in crowd” just for the sake of popularity.

2. Do You Lead or Follow?

trap musicYou should ask yourself this question: Are you a leader or a follower?  Leaders go against the grain and could care less about what everyone else is doing.  Followers check the billboard charts and mimic the top 10 hits in hopes that they will produce the next hit if it sounds like what’s already on the list.  Trap music is everywhere but that doesn’t mean that you absolutely have to create it yourself.

3. Why Make Beats?

trap musicThis last question to consider is probably the most important.  It determines your drive and attitude towards music production.  If you make beats strictly for money, I could understand why you would want to make trap music if you don’t already.  Just know that making beats for the sole purpose of making money will hurt you in the long run.  If you make beats because it’s something you enjoy doing as a hobby, then you will make any style that you are comfortable with.  If you are comfortable with trap music, then by all means continue what you do.  If making beats is constantly on your mind and you cannot imagine not making music, then your hunger will take you somewhere you don’t even realize yet.  These are the people who would create for free for the rest of their lives all for the love.

Even though trap music has taken over hiphop, that doesn’t mean that you have to participate unless that is what you really love.  Personally, I’m not a fan of synthetic snares or machine gun rapid fire sounding hihats with the over usage of 808’s LOL. Let’s be honest guys!  Most trap music involves that but, hey do you.  It’s all love and to prove it, i’ve supplied some free drums that cater to the trap music producers.  Click to download Lex Luger Drums.  Click to download 808s Kit.
